To help meet the wellness challenges of a soaring segment of individuals, families, and workplaces, Midwest Food Bank PA is launching its first GIVING WELLNESS campaign on Wednesday, September 25, National Women's Health and Fitness Day.

Midwest Food Bank PA, in partnership with Precision Training Concepts, Central PA’s largest local, independent personal training company, along with Amber Peterson, national board-certified health and wellness coach, have created GIVING WELLNESS to positively impact workplace health and wellness in PA by cultivating healthy habits, providing nutrition and fitness education, and building community connections through a shared wellness journey with friends and co-workers.

Health Heroes will speak about their health journeys and the successes they’ve had with GIVING WELLNESS. Giving Wellness pilot companies--CommunityAid and Strategic Consulting Partners—will be sharing the company and community impact from this wellness program.

THE IMPACT: For every employee participant, Midwest Food Bank receives a backpack of food for the weekend for 11 children!

THE EXPERTS: “Most of us eat too much. Others don’t have enough to eat. GIVING WELLNESS tackles both problems while building community and having fun. Together we are investing in health literacy, providing a fun, simple program for companies to offer employees, and making life changes with nutrition choices and fitness practices, all while raising awareness and donations to support Midwest Food Bank PA’s food distribution programs for people in Pennsylvania.”
– Kathy Anderson-Martin, Executive Director for Midwest Food Bank

“   “ Dr. James Leaming, Chief Medical Director, Penn State Health

Today’s corporate environment is always looking for ways to invest in their employees so that they have a happier, healthier, more fulfilled workforce who become more productive with fewer medical claims. Supporting Midwest Food Bank PA’s efforts to feed hungry families and children is a community investment. For every employee who participates, 11 children in need receive food for the weekend via Midwest Food Bank PA! GIVING WELLNESS is a win for all parties involved.”

“As a health professional, I often see people stop and start healthy habits and then give up in frustration because they don’t have the community and accountability to affect change for themselves. However, when people come together and work towards a common goal, something magical happens—they see others having success and believe they can do it, too! Participants encourage each other, share their wins and struggles, learn about proper nutrition and exercise, and have the accountability to make new habits stick. It’s a brilliant way to improve employee engagement and build a strong team while giving back to the community.

“On average, 22 participants lost 90 pounds collectively throughout the program. Participants have experienced improved sleep, decreased blood pressure, and improved mood, and 53% of the participants continue to the next challenge. One participant said, ‘This is one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself and it’s fun!’”
– Amber Peterson, NBC-HWC, FMCHC, National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach
